Baker Tilly joins the fight against hunger in Metro Detroit

Baker Tilly, with the support of Gleaners Community Foodbank, is hosting a community-wide food drive August 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at their Southfield office. The goal is to stuff two Gleaners vans with more than 2,000 lbs of food.

The drive will support Gleaners\’ KidSnack Program, which offers a snack to kids who attend after-school tutoring or recreational programs in 70 low-income neighborhood schools in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

\”It\’s really important for Baker Tilly to give back to the community,\” Alan Whitman, Baker Tilly partner and regional market leader, said. \”Hunger is a big problem in Metro Detroit and we\’re proud to support Gleaners and their efforts to help those in need.\”

Baker Tilly is also reaching out to their friends and colleagues in the community for support. More than 20 of their local clients and business partners are holding their own personal food drives to help reach the 2,000 lb goal. Baker Tilly staff volunteers are also hitting the local neighborhoods and asking approximately 1,500 residents to leave a bag of donation items outside their house on the morning of August 11 for volunteers to collect.

Sleeping and pregnancy

Many women who are pregnant, especially those who are going through their first experience of pregnancy, get surprised when they have sleeping problems during their pregnancy. If you are one of them, then first Relax. Many women have sleeping disturbances in some stage of their pregnancy, or some have throughout their whole pregnancy. This happen due to many reasons like:
Your growing baby – as your baby increases in size, so as your belly and it becomes difficult to find a comfortable position for your sleep. This happens mostly when the baby starts to move around inside you or the baby is active.
Heart burn – this is caused, when the uterus gets enlarged it pressures on the stomach. Talk to your doctor about how to reduce it.
Stress – thinking more or having stress can also disturb your sleep.
Backache – you may also have pain in parts of your body especially on back due to gaining of extra weight.
Frequent urination – as soon as you become pregnant and start having hormonal changes in you, you may need to urinate more frequently. And also in later in your pregnancy, when the enlarging uterus give pressure on your bladder that makes frequent urination. Frequent urination is not only on daytime but also during night, making you to get up frequently. So visiting toilet more during night will disturb your sleep.
The most important question that every woman will ask is how to get a comfortable sleep. The most important one is to try getting relaxed using different techniques, as it helps the most in getting a comfortable sleep.
Deep breathing – lie down on your bed in the most relaxing position. Breathe slowly and deeply until your lungs are full with air, then count for 10 and exhale slowly. Doing this will make you fall asleep easily.
Massage – massaging the body not only relaxes who gets their muscles tired by working the whole day. But also relaxes tired and tensed muscles in pregnant women. It’s very easy; you can get a massage from a massage therapist or ask your partner to give a massage for you.
Yoga and exercising – doing regular exercises and yoga can makes you healthy physically as well as mentally. And helps to give you a comfortable sleep. The best thing you can do is join yoga or an exercising class for pregnant women.
Aromatherapy – some aroma oils can help you in giving you a sleep more easily and faster as well. However remember to consult with an aroma therapist before using any oil, as some oils are not safe to use during pregnancy.
When your tummy gets enlarged you will definitely have difficulty in finding a relaxing position for sleeping. Try using a pregnancy pillow, which gives support to your tummy as well as to your back. Many women feel comfortable using them.
Don’t forget to take small naps during daytime to reduce your tiredness you have by staying up during night.
